Natural Gas Explained

Natural gas is a safe, reliable fossil fuel that can be found beneath layers of rock and earth. It is one of the safest, most reliable sources of energy available.

Here's how it works:

After taking measurements and rock samples from a site, drilling begins. Once natural gas is extracted, the raw gas is cleaned of pollutants, and its useful by-products, like propane and light oils, are recovered.

Pipelines stretch from coast to coast of North America, carrying gas directly from the producer to utility. Compressor stations located along the pipelines keep natural gas flowing at the right speed.

Your local natural gas utility delivers gas to your home or business through a system of underground pipelines. For your protection, an odorant is added to your gas, so you or your family can detect even the slightest trace of natural gas in the air.
